Holocaust Survivor Story: Dr. Jacob Eisenbach Shares a Message of Hope
Recently, I was fortunate to spend time with Dr. Jacob Eisenbach. His Holocaust survivor story includes a profound message of nurturing hope and joy amidst even the greatest atrocities of life. After practicing dentistry until the of age 92, he is now an educational speaker with a mission to end genocide.
In addition to celebrating Dr. Eisenbach’s 94th birthday, we taped a special edition of the Resiliency Matters TV show where he talked about his hometown of Lodz, Poland becoming a fenced prison camp after Hitler’s invasion in 1939, where anyone trying to escape was shot on the spot. Over the course of the war, his family members all died except one brother who subsequently was killed in a hate crime after the war ended.
As a child, he enjoyed listening to adult conversations and attributes those moments as advice he still holds onto today. He looked me directly in my eyes and said,
“No matter how dark the clouds may be, there will always be a day when the sun will break through. Which means, never lose hope for a better tomorrow…That hope has been my guide.”
Dr. Eisenbach expressed his belief that each of us has the power to make a positive difference for all of us. He created an Action Guide to Prevent and Eliminate Genocide to educate the world about current genocides and crimes against humanity.
This guide shares 14 actions we can take today to make a difference. It also includes contact information for pivotal national leaders, United Nations ambassadors, and global policy makers. This guide provides resources to stay informed, get involved, and support organizations working to prevent and eliminate mass atrocities.
Message to our Future Leaders
“I would like young people to know…You should guard your precious minds against accepting ideas of hatred, discrimination, and intolerance.”
Dr. Jacob Eisenbach is a humanitarian who embodies resilience. He has chosen a path of peace, faith, hope and love – and he walks it with humility and joy.
